Lobe reconstruction and piercings

Some people notice after a while that their piercing end up migrating towards the bottom of the earlobe. Sometimes it’s due to a faulty placement, hard pulls or simply wearing jewelry that’s too heavy. As the years go by and with gravity, the piercing holes start stretching and tearing downwards. What are the options then? In this blog, we’ll number a couple of alternatives.

Reconstruction

For the majority, clients will often choose to get a reconstructive surgery. It’s with a qualified surgeon that most of the work will get done. Following the operation, the client will have to wait for their specialist to give their “go” before getting pierced again. It’ll be up to the person to find a reputable piercer to get their lobes re-pierced. Generally, knowledgable piercers won’t pierce directly in the scar tissue as it is more fragile than healthy skin tissues.

Simply re-piercing

In cases where the scar shows a lot less, some people will prefer taking out their jewelry, letting them shrink or close up, and get them re-pierced afterwards. Once again, the piercing will not be directly in or on top of the previous placement, because we don’t want to amplify the initial scarring. It’ll always be pierced right next to it, as symmetrical as possible.

Go with the flow

Even though it is not the most popular option, there are certain clients who will simply accept the fact their piercings stretched up over time and will go with the easiest way there is: install either plugs or tunnels of the appropriate size for their ears. After all, it’s a unique style, so why not!

In any case, if you’re unsure of what’s best for you or what to choose from, you can always consult with a professional body piercer so they can advise and guide you throughout the process. Ultimately, if the reconstruction surgery is the preferable option in your case, you will have to find a reputable clinic that specializes in those surgeries.
